Karns Meadow Stormwater Treatment Wetland

The Town of Jackson acquired open space with the purpose of building a stormwater treatment facility, improving a degraded riparian meadow, and providing public trails.  IMA worked with the Town, Teton Conservation District, and Teton Regional Land Trust to integrate these goals seamlessly.  After performing analyses of urban and wildland hydrology, water quality, existing stormwater infrastructure, and the site’s topography, soils, and habitat, IMA designed a treatment wetland that provides temporary runoff storage to remove sediment and pollutants that previously flowed into Flat Creek.  The design created a series of basins and channels with naturalistic vegetation, engineered hydraulic retention, and efficient connections with existing stormwater infrastructure.  Additional channels restored riparian hydrology and vegetation in areas dedicated to wildlife habitat.  IMA performed water rights, wetland, and stormwater permitting, facilitated stakeholder input, prepared construction and revegetation drawings and specifications, helped to secure funding for portions of the project, and provided construction oversight.  The public benefits from water quality, fish and wildlife habit, and recreation enhancements in one project.
